White Afyon and Carrara Marble Bathroom in Chapel Hill, NC

This Chapel Hill, North Carolina, bathroom renovation uses a restrained natural stone palette across the vanity, floor, walls, and shower. White Afyon Marble defines the vanity countertop, while Carrara carries through the floor, walls, and shower in several formats and finishes.
Rather than repeating the same treatment on every surface, the project combines a 12×24-inch honed White Carrara floor, 24×48-inch polished Carrara walls, Carrara marble slabs in the shower, and a mosaic shower floor. The consistent material palette connects the space, while the changes in scale and finish give each area a distinct role. MARBLE Unlimited supplied the marble materials and custom-fabricated the project-specific stone components.
White Afyon Marble at the Vanity
The vanity countertop is fabricated from White Afyon Marble. Its light background and natural movement set it apart from the Carrara used elsewhere, while its pale tone still fits within the bathroom’s overall marble palette.

Honed White Carrara Floor
The bathroom floor uses 12×24-inch honed White Carrara marble. The rectangular format establishes a clear pattern across the floor, and the honed finish gives the stone a softer, more matte appearance than the polished wall surfaces.
That difference in finish matters. The floor shows Carrara’s natural gray movement with less reflection than polished marble. It creates a quieter base for the room and helps connect the Carrara wall and shower surfaces within the overall design.
Polished Carrara Walls
The walls are finished with 24×48-inch polished Carrara marble. The larger format presents broader sections of stone, while the polished surface reflects more light and gives the walls a brighter appearance.
Because the floor and walls use the same marble in different sizes and finishes, they relate naturally without looking repetitive. The 12×24-inch honed floor provides a restrained foundation, and the 24×48-inch polished wall material adds scale and contrast. Each surface remains distinct while contributing to the same overall design.

Carrara Marble Slabs with a Mosaic Shower Floor
Carrara marble slabs form the main stone surfaces in the shower. Their larger scale creates a more continuous view of the material and gives the marble’s natural pattern room to extend across broad areas.
The shower floor shifts to a mosaic format. The smaller pattern clearly defines the base of the shower and introduces another level of detail beneath the slab surfaces. Together, the large Carrara slabs and smaller mosaic create contrast in scale while maintaining a coordinated appearance.
