Marble countertops are a beautiful addition to any home, be it in the kitchen or the bathroom. Of course, with any room design, there are plenty of things to consider. Most people will want to make sure that their flooring choice suits the marble countertop.
Learn about some of the flooring options you may like to consider for your home and what to consider before making your final choice.
There are plenty of choices for flooring in your kitchen (or bathroom) with marble countertops. In either room, you will most likely need something durable that also matches the room’s look. These options include slate, marble, ceramic, or vinyl, to name a few.
1. Slate and Natural Stone
Slate or other natural stone floor tiles come in more color options than you may think. Depending on if you’d like the room to have a cooler color palette with the darker or bluer grays or a warmer palette with beige or warmer brown, you can still choose slate. It helps to pay attention to the threads in your marble countertop.
2. Marble
Meanwhile, you could choose to match your countertop with marble floor tiles. Your floor doesn’t have to match the countertop’s exact pattern, but it does help to know which finishes will look the best together. If your entire room mostly features polished marble, it might look a bit too much. You could opt for an unpolished look that ties in with the countertops but doesn’t overwhelm the room.
3. Vinyl
An affordable and reliable floor choice is vinyl. In addition to its lower price than other floorings, vinyl is damage resistant, meaning that it’s much easier to clean and remove stains. You also won’t have to worry as much about possible water damage to a vinyl floor. Plus, vinyl wear and tear won’t be a noticeable problem for at least a decade after use.
4. Ceramic
Ceramic floors are commonly used for kitchens, thanks to their durability and resistance to water. Ceramic tile is also reasonably easy to maintain since it also does not stain, break, or damage easily. If you keep it in good condition, it will last you a long time.
Another plus is that ceramic tile comes in several colors, sizes, and shapes, giving you a broader range of design options, depending on the look of your countertops.
5. Hardwood Floors
Hardwood flooring might not be the first thing that springs to mind when choosing flooring options for a kitchen. Compared to the previously mentioned tile flooring types, it is perhaps the most vulnerable choice for spills or stains.
However, from a design standpoint, both marble and hardwood are natural, instead of manmade options like vinyl. Their natural qualities work well together to make a more minimalistic room. You can also choose from plenty of wood colors or finishes, allowing you to blend or contrast your countertops from the floors.
6. Bamboo
A slightly different option from hardwood, but still natural, is bamboo flooring. Bamboo might even make your kitchen closer to nature than the feeling of hardwood.
While it can be more challenging to refinish than other floors due to its lack of natural grain, it is more water and moisture-resistant than hardwood. You can also choose from different colors and stains to make the perfect match for your countertops.
Other Things to Consider
The flooring options mentioned above are all choices that can easily give you the perfect kitchen or bathroom for marble countertops. However, they are not the only options. There are plenty of flooring types that allow you to create the illusion of hardwood flooring or natural stones and ceramic floors.
You’ll mainly want to focus on the color scheme, particularly if you’re choosing your flooring based on your countertop choice. Similar to some of the flooring choices above, be sure to pay attention to your marble’s overall color and the colors in its many threads.
The size of your tiles or wood planks can also affect the way your room looks. For example, wide planks for hardwood tend not to look as classic as marble does. Or, when tiling a kitchen floor, you would want to use larger tiles instead of the smaller tile used for bathroom floors.
