Description
White Calacatta Quartzite originally quarried from Brazil, has warm off-white tones with grey and taupe colored veins. With a look reminiscent of the Calacatta Marble ,The White Calacatta Quartzite can provide the look of marble with the durability of quartzite.
Quartzite is a hard, unfoliated metamorphic stone that was originally pure quartz sandstone. Heating and pressure, usually related to tectonic compression in orogenic belts, transforms sandstone into quartz. Pure quartzite is usually white to gray in color. Quartzites often appear in different shades of pink and red due to varying amounts of hematite. Other colors, such as yellow, green, blue and orange, are due to other minerals.
Such a sedimentary rock also goes under the name of ortho-quartzite. To distinguish it from metamorphic quartzite, it sometimes goes under the name of metaquartzite to emphasize its metamorphic origins.
The typical distinction between a true ortho-quartzite and an ordinary quartz tile is that an ortho-quartzite is so strongly cemented. That will make it fracture over the grains, not around them. This is a recognizable distinction in the field. In turn, the distinction between an ortho-quartzite and a metaquartzite is the beginning of the recrystallization of existing grains. The partition line can start at the point where the new quartz grains begin. In this way producing a mortar texture in thin sections. Subsequent recrystallization produces a foamy texture, characterized by polygonal grains that meet at triple junctions, and then a porphyroblastic texture, characterized by coarse, irregular grains, including some larger grains.
White Calacatta quartz is the best choice!
